Oriental Market/Dong Yang Mart NOLA
About This Spot
Stepping into Oriental Market, also known locally as Dong Yang Mart NOLA, feels a bit like finding a quiet nook brimming with the essentials and little treasures of Asian cuisine. Nestled on Transcontinental Drive in Metairie, this intimate market carries itself with a welcoming calm, a place where the pace slows just enough to invite a thoughtful browse rather than a rushed errand. The modest size of the store embraces visitors with a sense of familiarity—no dazzling crowds or overwhelming options, just a purposeful, curated selection that quietly speaks to both everyday cooks and those chasing more adventurous flavors.
What stands out here isn’t just the variety, but the nuance in the offerings—a range of noodles, fresh mushrooms, and distinctive pantry staples that invite discovery at every turn. There’s a comforting practicality in knowing you can find quality essentials like prized sake, fragrant oils, and flavorful vinegars in the same space where the freshest pickles and banchan await, all ready to inspire meals that tell stories beyond the plate.
The atmosphere reflects a neighborhood spirit—marked by warm interactions and a genuine attentiveness that resonates in the casual yet thoughtful service. This is a market where your questions meet patient answers, and where the quiet hum of well-loved routines offers a sense of belonging. Although the parking can test your patience at busy times, it feels like a familiar trade-off for an experience that feels less like shopping and more like connecting—with ingredients, with culture, and with people who understand the joy in putting a meal together.
For those navigating the sometimes overwhelming world of Asian groceries, Oriental Market provides a reassuring touchstone. It’s a spot where the beauty lies less in breadth and more in the careful balance of basics and special finds that invite you to explore, experiment, and return with confidence. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning enthusiast, this modest gem holds a steady charm that quietly celebrates the rhythms of daily life and the unspoken comfort of the familiar.

I went there yesterday and I loved the selection of items! Although it’s a small store they have all of the basics and some unique items as well. The cashiers were friendly and welcoming and that goes a long way for me! I will be back and recommend to friends who may be overwhelmed with the endless selections at the bigger markets!

Great selection for such a Small Market! Lots of oils and rice, wine vinegar‘s, etc. good selection of quality sake. Small refrigerator with real kimchi. Many fresh mushrooms available, including king mushrooms. About every kind of noodle you could ever want. Lots of supplies to me miso soup. Only con is that there is a fairly small parking lot so plan a little extra time in case you have to wait a few minutes. But it was only a minute or two that we had to wait in the parking lot changes quite quickly. Bring a small car. Only one check out, but was easy and fast to check out. The gentleman running the store, knew about everything in the store, and was able to answer questions about what I was looking for.

They have everything you need for your favorite Korean dish. They have prepackaged kimbap ham and radish for you to make your own kimpbap. The ramen selections were decent

Best Korean supermarket in the New Orleans metro area. It's small but they have a really good selection of staple Korean items. They are also willing to order items from Korea if you request. Friendly family business.

My new favorite market! They have all the asian goodies from spices and sauces to snacks and noodles. THEY HAVE SOJU. I could not find a liquor store that sold it. Their staff is friendly and helped me find just what I needed to make Okonomiyaki. Here are pictures of my haul and a picture of my Okonomiyaki. Definitely shop here instead of ordering on amazon!

For me it is Disney Land!!!! I absolutely adore this place!!!! I make a lot of mock sushi at home and they have the most amazing imitation crab. It is out of this world for a reasonable price. There are always fresh vegetables for soups, such as bean, sprouts, and green onions! And they have an amazing Pho selection!
